School Treasurer
Being the Treasurer of your local school's board of management can be an onerous tax. It can also be one of the most rewarding and challenging voluntary roles you are likely to encounter.
Duties
1. To keep the school accounts.
2. To ensure that proper internal controls are in place.
3. To report to the Board the income and expenditure of the school since the last meeting of the board.
4. To maintain control over the bank accounts of the school. There should be no "concealed" or unaccounted accounts.
5. To retain the documentary evidence of all income and expenditure. This includes invoices, statements and petty cash records.
6. To ensure compliance with Section 18 of the Education Act 1998.
7. To ensure that all grant aid is appropriately spent and accounted for.
8. To guard against financial risk. This covers the proper and adequate insurance of the school and compliance with all tax law.
9. To sign or approve by signature all expenditure from school accounts.
10. To prepare a budget for the forthcoming financial year and account for divergences from the present budget.
11. To ensure that fund-raising is carried out where it is necessary.
